Sean Penn and Robin Wright's 2 Kids: Get to Know Dylan and Hopper

by Kristine Bowman

Sean Penn and Robin Wright’s two children are following in their famous parents’ footsteps. The former couple, who were together on and off starting in 1989 and married from 1996 to 2010, share daughter Dylan Frances Penn, 34, and son Hopper Jack Penn, 32. Both have stepped into the spotlight, embracing careers in acting — and even sharing the screen with their parents.

In 2021, the Penn family (minus Wright) appeared together in Flag Day, a father-daughter drama directed by Sean himself. Dylan played the lead role, with her father and brother also starring. Hopper later acted alongside his mom in the 2023 thriller Devil’s Peak.

Despite their split over a decade ago, Penn and Wright have maintained a supportive friendship. In 2018, Sean said of his kids, “They’re amazing . They’re both acting and modeling — an industry I’m not very interested in, but they seem to have fun with it… I’m supportive of whatever makes them happy and healthy.” Wright echoed similar sentiments in 2023, telling E! News, “To be friends with the father of your children… it’s a gift. Divorce with children is one of the most difficult things in life.

Dylan Frances Penn, 34

Born on April 13, 1991, Dylan is the couple’s first child. Though she was named Dylan, her dad affectionately calls her “Peaches” — a nickname inspired by her childhood love of peaches.

Growing up with famous parents brought some unique challenges. She once recalled a fifth-grade memory when her teacher played The Princess Bride in class — her mom’s iconic role as Princess Buttercup — leading to classmates gushing over her mom’s beauty.

Dylan has built a career in both modeling and acting, working with brands like Gap and Ralph Lauren before shifting focus to film. Her breakout came in Flag Day, which she starred in alongside her dad and brother. The film, based on Jennifer Vogel’s memoir, explores a daughter’s complicated relationship with her con artist father.

Hopper Jack Penn, 32

Hopper was born on August 6, 1993, and nearly had a very different name. “My dad wanted to name me Steak — the food — because he loves it so much,” Hopper once joked. Luckily, his mom vetoed the idea. His actual name is a tribute to actor Dennis Hopper, a friend and inspiration to Sean.

Hopper has been open about his personal struggles, including a past addiction to crystal meth. In 2017, he revealed that his father gave him a tough ultimatum that helped him turn his life around: “Rehab or bus bench?” Hopper chose rehab.

Like his sister, Hopper has pursued acting, and in addition to Flag Day, he starred alongside his mother in Devil’s Peak in 2023.

Sean Penn Reflects on Rebuilding Friendship with Robin Wright

In a 2023 interview with The New York Times, Penn reflected on the journey of rebuilding his relationship with Wright post-divorce. “It’s a lot quicker to repair a friendship after divorce if there are no kids involved,” he shared. “It took Robin and I quite a while. There was a lot of drama.” But with children in the mix, he added, “it’s much more important to repair — though not easy.
