Michael Douglas’ 3 Children: Everything to Know About Cameron, Dylan, and Carys

by Kristine Bowman

Michael Douglas has enjoyed a long and celebrated career, earning numerous accolades for his performances — but the role he values most is being a father. The Ant-Man star first became a dad in 1978 with the birth of his son Cameron, now 46, whom he shares with ex-wife Diandra Luker. The two were married for 18 years before separating in 1995 and finalizing their divorce in 2000.

Douglas later married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and together they’ve raised two children: son Dylan, 25, and daughter Carys, 22. “My career was the most important thing in my life, followed by marriage and children,” Douglas told AARP The Magazine in 2010. “And it’s completely reversed now. I never anticipated starting a family and the joy of raising kids at my age.”

Over the years, Douglas’ children have often joined him on the red carpet. In July 2024, Dylan and Carys attended a New York City screening of his documentary America’s Burning. A few months later, in October, Cameron and Dylan were by his side at the Princess Grace Awards, where Douglas received the Prince Rainier III Award.

Cameron Douglas, 46

Born December 13, 1978, Cameron is Douglas and Luker’s only child together. His life has been marked by both public struggles and personal triumphs. Cameron began battling drug addiction at age 13, as he shared in his 2019 memoir Long Way Home. In 2009, he was arrested for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, receiving a five-year prison sentence later extended for possession while incarcerated.

“There were moments when hope dwindled… and then it’s just a train out of the station,” Douglas told in 2019, recalling fears he might lose his son. Cameron admitted, “I hated the wreckage I saw in my life because of drugs, but I just couldn’t stop.”

After nearly eight years in prison, Cameron was released in 2016, sober and determined to help others seek treatment. Douglas has expressed immense pride in his son’s recovery and advocacy work, saying, “He’s talking the talk and walking the walk.

Dylan Douglas, 25

Douglas and Zeta-Jones welcomed Dylan on August 8, 2000 — just months before their wedding. At 15, Dylan spoke publicly about his struggles with dyslexia, an emotional moment Zeta-Jones later praised on Facebook, writing, “Hard work with good teachers. Forever indebted.”

Douglas has often expressed admiration for Dylan’s compassion and charitable spirit. In 2016, he said, “He’s a good son. I am very proud.” Dylan attended Brown University, sharing a snapshot of his dorm in 2018 captioned “A new home.” Zeta-Jones visited him during his sophomore year, posting a warm photo with the note: “On campus with my boy Dylan.

Carys Douglas, 22

Born April 20, 2003, Carys arrived just days after her mother’s Oscar win for Chicago. Zeta-Jones has described that period as a whirlwind: filming, promoting the movie, walking the Oscars red carpet nine months pregnant, and welcoming Carys just 10 days later.

Carys has frequently joined her mother at major fashion events for brands like Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, and Fendi. Zeta-Jones once shared a throwback video of young Carys in a school performance, fully in character with dark eye makeup and moody expressions — a glimpse of her natural flair for the dramatic.

Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones: A Lasting Love Story

The Oscar-winning couple shares more than children — they also share the same birthday, September 25. Douglas was captivated by Zeta-Jones after seeing her in The Mask of Zorro in 1998, arranging to meet her through his publicist. Though their first encounter was less than smooth, the two soon became inseparable, marrying in 2000 and welcoming two children.

Their marriage hasn’t been without challenges. In 2013, they briefly separated before reconciling the following year. “It can’t be a one-way street,” Douglas told Ellen DeGeneres in 2015. “But I’m crazy about her… We’re back stronger than ever.” In November 2023, they celebrated 23 years of marriage — still side by side in love, life, and family.
