Maya Rudolph’s 4 Kids: Get to Know Pearl, Lucille, Jack, and Minnie

by Kristine Bowman

Maya Rudolph and her longtime partner, acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, share four children: Pearl, Lucille, Jack, and Minnie. The couple has reportedly been together since 2001. While they’re not legally married, Rudolph has referred to Anderson as her husband ever since the birth of their first child.

“People know what [husband] means,” she told The New York Times in 2018. “It means he’s the father of my child, I live with him, and we are a couple — we’re not going anywhere.”

In that same year, Rudolph reflected on motherhood in a conversation with PopSugar, sharing how much it changed her worldview. “When you’re thinking about another human being who is more precious than you, and you have the instinct to care for them, you naturally do what’s right. They always come first.

Pearl Anderson, 19

Pearl, the couple’s first child, was born on October 15, 2005, while Rudolph was still a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey announced the happy news on Weekend Update, calling her “the little peanut.”

Rudolph recalled how she and Anderson felt incredibly lucky. “She’s exceptional,” Rudolph told Bust in 2006. As a baby, Pearl often traveled with her mom to New York while she continued filming SNL. “She’s a world-class traveler… She smiles at everybody,” Rudolph said. “She’s a sweet lady.”

Before becoming a mom, Rudolph was fully devoted to SNL. “It’s hard to be there for anyone else in your life when you’re doing the show because of the hours it demands,” she told NPR in 2012. She left the show when Pearl was two to focus more on family life. Speaking to Parade in 2017, she shared that it was the right choice for her growing family.

Lucille Anderson, 15

Lucille, the couple’s second daughter, was born on November 6, 2009—and she arrived fast. “It was not my plan, but that’s what happened,” Rudolph said on Chelsea Lately in 2011. “The baby came out really fast… It was scary, but kind of awesome.”

Rudolph first shared her pregnancy news with ET Canada, noting that her first experience as a mom helped prepare her for baby number two. “The first time, you’re wide-eyed. This time, I was like, ‘I need to sit down—I’m pregnant.’”

In March 2021, all four kids joined their mom at SNL when she returned to host. During her monologue, Rudolph sweetly shared, “I have four incredible kids, and they’re all here tonight. Don’t make me cry.

Jack Anderson, 14

Jack was born on July 3, 2011. As with her earlier pregnancies, Rudolph and Anderson chose not to find out the baby’s sex ahead of time. “The exciting part is not knowing who’s coming,” Rudolph told Access Hollywood. “It’s a good payoff because it really is a surprise.”

By her third child, Rudolph felt more confident in her parenting. “I was a little bit of a pro,” she said, admitting that some of her early worries had faded. “By the third child, we didn’t even have a car seat anymore,” she joked.

Rudolph once shared on Conan that she kept Turner Classic Movies playing at home so her kids would soak in classic film knowledge. Jack, in particular, took a liking to the old movies.

Minnie Ida Anderson, 12

The couple’s youngest child, Minnie, was born on August 1, 2013. She’s named in honor of Rudolph’s late mother, singer Minnie Riperton, who passed away in 1979 when Maya was just six years old.

Less than two years after Minnie’s birth, Rudolph was asked if she planned to have more kids. Her response? “Hell no,” she laughed. “I’d be a crazy person if that happened!”

Though Rudolph is a big name in Hollywood, her children mostly just want their mom’s attention at home. In a 2016 interview, she said her kids often ask her to “sit down and watch” as they put on performances in the living room.
