Jaime King's 2 Kids: Everything to Know About Her Sons James and Leo

by Kristine Bowman

Jaime King is a proud mom of two sons, whom she shares with her ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman. The White Chicks actress welcomed her first son, James Knight, in October 2013, followed by her second, Leo Thames, in July 2015.

After 13 years of marriage, King and Newman called it quits in May 2020, which led to a highly public custody battle. In court documents, King accused Newman of verbal and emotional abuse, while Newman alleged that King struggled with drug and alcohol issues that put their children at risk.

Their legal dispute concluded in March 2025, when Newman was granted sole physical custody of the boys. Although James and Leo now primarily reside with their father, the court granted King supervised visitation up to three times per week. The visits are conditional, as she has yet to complete a six-month substance abuse program and fulfill other court-ordered requirements.

James Knight, 11

Born on October 6, 2013, James weighed 7 lbs., 2 oz. at birth. “Mom and baby are happy, healthy and are doing great,” King’s rep shared at the time.

At age 4, James accompanied his mom to the Incredibles 2 premiere, confidently rocking a hot-pink dress with bows and flowers. King, a vocal advocate for gender-neutral fashion, has spoken out against the idea that clothing should conform to strict gender norms. “Somehow, the world decided that boys belong in blue and girls belong in pink… as if allowing a boy to wear purple or hot pink is steering them in the wrong direction,” she told.

Following the couple’s split, James and Leo relocated to Pennsylvania with their dad. While James occasionally visits his mom on set, he mostly stays out of the spotlight.

Leo Thames, 10

Leo was born on July 16, 2015. During her 20-week prenatal scan, King learned that Leo had a congenital heart defect known as transposition of the great arteries. He required open-heart surgery shortly after birth — a traumatic experience King later recalled.

“I was wheel-chaired to him every three hours so I could breastfeed him and take care of him before he went into this huge surgery,” she said, explaining how Leo needed to gain enough weight to safely undergo the procedure. “It was a terrifying experience. But thank God for the medicine that we have now.”

Despite their separation, King and Newman appeared to co-parent amicably at times. In July 2020, she tagged Newman in a birthday post for Leo, which showed her blowing out candles with both sons by her side.
