Russell then shared, “Y’all, Tyler and me are expecting a baby girl.”

As the audience erupted in cheers, Ward quickly joined her on stage, lovingly embracing Russell and gently placing his hands on her baby bump.

The singer went on to reveal that she didn’t know about the pregnancy when she appeared on American Idol.

“I’m so excited that right out of American Idol – I didn’t know. So, you know, that’s kind of been the journey,” she said. “I’m so excited.”

Russell and Ward have kept their relationship mostly private, sharing only a few glimpses on social media.

On November 5, Ward posted a photo on Instagram of him and Russell with Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, during a visit to the White House.

“Had the privilege of meeting @kamalaharris and her husband at the White House this year! It was surreal. Kamala was very sweet,” he captioned the post. “You might be asking, how in the world did this happen?? Because @emmyroserussell is a superstar and was personally invited to perform. And me? Well… I’m just her arm candy.”

Meanwhile, PK, 57, shared his own videos of their children. In his first post, he featured Phoenix singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

“And just like that, Phoenix became Dorothy at 8 years old in her first-ever musical… ❤️,” he captioned the video.

He later posted another video of Phoenix performing several fouetté turns at the center of the stage during a Nutcracker matinee. “And on the same day in the Nutcracker matinee, she did this…,” he wrote in the caption.

In June, He and Russell posted a joint Instagram featuring two glammed mirror selfies, captioned, “Classified. For now…🔎.”

Russell competed in season 22 of American Idol, making it to the Top 5. She wowed the judges with her heartfelt original song “Skinny” and impressed with covers of “All the Small Things” by Blink-182, Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb,” and Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

The singer also paid tribute to her late grandmother, Loretta Lynn, by covering Lynn’s iconic hit “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in April, Russell opened up about her song “Skinny,” which was inspired by her personal struggle with disordered eating. She shared, “I struggled a lot with physical beauty image pressures and social media. I kind of grew up in the spotlight, and so I was always very image-conscious.”

Russell felt compelled to write the song when she realized how many others could relate to her experience.

“When I saw 80 or 70 million people struggle with eating, I was like, ‘What? I’m not the only one. I need to sing about it,'” she explained.
