Elon Musk’s 14 Children: A Clear Family Guide

“Publicly known” is the most accurate answer. The total comes from announcements, first-person accounts, court reporting and major profiles; it cannot prove that no family information remains private. That boundary matters in a story where several births became public months or years later.

This guide organises the names by mother, explains which dates are precise and which are only public by year, and identifies the small amount of adult public work that can be stated responsibly. It does not turn custody litigation, children’s locations or anonymous claims into family biography.

The arithmetic is 6 + 3 + 4 + 1 = 14 children born. Nevada’s death in infancy means 13 are living. Articles that say 10, 11, 12 or 13 may have been accurate at an earlier disclosure date but do not represent the public record reviewed here.

Some names are unusual, but spelling should not become spectacle. X Æ A-Xii is commonly called X; Exa Dark Sideræl has been called Y; Techno Mechanicus is known as Tau. Nicknames are included only when they are part of attributable public reporting.

How the four family branches fit together

Musk married Canadian author Justine Wilson in 2000. Their first son, Nevada, was born in 2002 and died at 10 weeks. The couple later had twins Griffin and Vivian in 2004 and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian in 2006. They divorced in 2008.

His three children with musician Grimes arrived between 2020 and 2022. His twins with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis were born in November 2021, before the public knew about that branch. Zilis later had Arcadia and Seldon Lycurgus. Ashley St. Clair’s son Romulus was born in 2024; later paternity reporting placed him in the public count.

The branches overlap chronologically. A simple eldest-to-youngest list therefore hides the information readers most often need: which children are full siblings, which are paternal half-siblings, and why totals changed between apparently reputable articles.

The six children with Justine Wilson

Nevada Alexander Musk was born in 2002. Justine Wilson wrote directly about his death in a first-person Marie Claire essay, saying he died from sudden infant death syndrome at 10 weeks. This guide includes him in the birth count and distinguishes that count from the number of living children.

Griffin and Vivian were born in 2004. They are twins. Vivian’s full public name is Vivian Jenna Wilson. She legally changed her name and is an adult public figure who has spoken in her own voice, including a 2025 Teen Vogue cover interview.

Using Vivian’s former name would not add useful history; it would override the identity she uses publicly. She is correctly described as Musk and Wilson’s daughter. Her current modelling and public commentary can be reported when relevant, but her relationship with her father should not be narrated from his claims as though she had no voice of her own.

Kai, Saxon and Damian were born in 2006. They are triplets and reached adulthood before this review date. Public profiles contain far less reliable first-person information about them than about Vivian, so this page does not invent education, employment or personality summaries.

The Wilson branch illustrates why “what do they all do?” has an uneven answer. One adult child has chosen public visibility; others have not. Equal treatment does not mean filling every row with speculation—it means applying the same evidence threshold.

The three children with Grimes

X Æ A-Xii was born in May 2020. The child’s registered spelling followed California naming rules after the parents’ original announcement. He is widely called X. Public appearances with a parent establish that an appearance occurred, not a permanent role in business or politics.

Exa Dark Sideræl was born in December 2021 via a gestational carrier, as Grimes disclosed in a Vanity Fair interview. She has been called Y in public accounts. The interview remains stronger evidence than fan attempts to interpret every photograph or nickname.

Techno Mechanicus, known as Tau, was born in 2022. His existence became widely known through Walter Isaacson’s authorised 2023 biography of Musk. That delayed disclosure is one reason older totals differ.

All three are minors. Their names and publicly disclosed birth information answer the family question. Schools, daily locations and unverified health claims do not. Grimes’ work as a musician is relevant to identifying the parent branch, not to assigning artistic interests to the children.

The four children with Shivon Zilis

Strider and Azure were born in November 2021. Court documents connected with a name-change request first brought the twins into broad public reporting in 2022. They are full siblings and twins.

Arcadia was born in 2024. Public information about her remains limited. A year is more defensible than a guessed full birth date, and the page does not use social-photo captions to construct developmental milestones.

Seldon Lycurgus was publicly announced in February 2025. Zilis named him while discussing Arcadia’s birthday. Reporting commonly described him as Musk’s fourteenth child because Ashley St. Clair had already disclosed her son, even though public confirmation developed on a different timetable.

Zilis is an executive at Neuralink. That identifies her current public role; it should not be used to infer how the children were conceived, raised or educated unless a parent has chosen to say so directly. The children are minors and have not elected to become technology personalities.

The child with Ashley St. Clair

Romulus was born in 2024. St. Clair publicly said in February 2025 that Musk was the father. Subsequent Wall Street Journal reporting described laboratory paternity evidence, and Associated Press reporting in January 2026 identified her as the mother of Musk’s son Romulus.

The careful wording here reflects the sequence: a maternal announcement, legal reporting, reported paternity evidence, then later mainstream identification. It does not require reproducing private messages or turning support and custody disputes into entertainment.

Romulus is a young child. His first name and broad birth timing are sufficient for this family map. The guide omits residence, care arrangements and any details that could increase intrusion without improving the answer.

Why do different articles give different totals?

Publication date is therefore part of the fact. A 2021 article cannot be “corrected” merely by changing the age of X while leaving the family total untouched. It needs a new branch audit.

“Confirmed” also needs care. Some children were announced by both parents, some by one parent, some through court records and some through an authorised biography. The current list is well supported, but the evidence path is not identical for every entry.

What is public—and what is intentionally excluded?

This guide reports names, broad birth timing, parent branches and adult public work supported by named sources. It excludes schools, addresses, travel patterns, medical speculation and anonymous claims about family relationships.
