Ed Sheeran's Two Daughters: A Complete Look at Lyra and Jupiter

by Tasha Mayberry

Ed Sheeran is loving life as a father of two. The “Bad Habits” singer and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, welcomed their first daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, in August 2020. The musician has been open about how much his lifestyle has changed since becoming a dad. “Well, I became a dad and I feel like my lifestyle shift has changed. Instead of going to bed at six [a.m.], I’m getting up at four,” he told James Corden on The Late Late Show in June 2021, noting that his daughter added some structure to his routine. “It just feels like what life was meant to be. It’s great,” he continued. “I’m healthier than I’ve ever been. I’m exercising every day … I’m spending so much time at home making the record. Yeah, I feel like a human being. It’s good.”

Sheeran’s foray into parenthood also brought him closer to his own parents, Imogen and John Sheeran. “The relationship that I had with my parents has completely changed from like, it was amazing before, but now it’s just like there’s this eternal gratefulness and respect of being like, I know what they went through and I’m still kind of like, going through it,” he told Zane Lowe on New Music Daily.

In May 2022, the artist announced that he and Seaborn’s family had expanded again with the birth of their second daughter, Jupiter — though they kept her name private at the time. But it wasn’t until March 2023, when announcing his new album, Subtract, that Sheeran shared a scary detail about Seaborn’s pregnancy. “My pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth,” he said in a press release.

Sheeran hasn’t divulged many details about his children — he’s never posted a photo of either of his girls and asked fans for “privacy” after his first daughter was born. However, he has been very open about how parenthood has impacted his perspective. In May 2024, Sheeran said that he’s been playing the new music he’s working on with Lyra and Jupiter, and so far, they’re fans — though they don’t have much of an opportunity to listen to his older music around the house. “I feel it’d be quite weird to just put on my discography, so they mostly know the new songs that I’m working on because I play them quite a lot,” he told.

Lyra Antarctica, 3 years old

Lyra was born in August 2020 in England. Sheeran revealed the exciting news on Instagram on September 1. “Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter — Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran,” he wrote beside a cute photo of tiny socks and a baby blanket. “We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.”

Nearly a year later, in July 2021, the singer explained how he and Seaborn picked their now-2-year-old child’s name on the British talk show Lorraine. “I realize some  think it’s quite a strange name,” he said. “But my wife’s called Cherry, and she is the only Cherry that I’ve ever met and I think that she’s the only Cherry that she’s ever met and I quite like that. In my class at school, there were probably more Eds … [We] just wanted to give her a name that was unique, so that she would be the only one [with that name].”

Sheeran shared a sweet tribute to his first child as a lullaby on his fourth studio album called “Visiting Hours.” “There’s a song on there that’s specifically for Lyra, that’s just a lullaby,” he said during an interview with Fleur East on The Hits Radio Breakfast Show. “I wanted to have at least one song where were like ‘Oh, and that’s for his daughter.'” The song is also an ode to his friend Michael, who passed away the same year. “I wish that heaven had visiting hours/So I could just show up and bring the news/That she’s gettin’ older and I wish that you’d met her/The things that she’ll learn from me, I got them all from you,” Sheeran sings. “But now I’m kind of in a difficult situation if I ever have more kids cause they’ll be like ‘Where’s mine? Where’s my song?'” he added while talking about the song.

Not to worry, because he wrote one for his and Seaborn’s most recent addition too! In October 2022, Sheeran made an appearance on Good Morning America and explained that Lyra understands her dad’s career — to an extent. “My first daughter is, you know, she comes to the shows and she’s quite aware — I think she assumes everyone else’s dad sings as well though.”

During a concert in Brooklyn, New York, Sheeran shared that his song “Dusty” was inspired by his morning routine with Lyra. Every day, the father-daughter duo listens to a different vinyl record while they eat breakfast. “[I would] go to bed and cry myself to sleep and wake up at 6 [a.m.] with this ball of energy — this beautiful girl that’s jumping on me and being like, ‘Let’s listen to music and eat porridge!’ and I’m like ‘Yes, that’s exactly what I want to do,'” he told the crowd, referencing grieving the loss of his best friend, Jamal. “That’s the wonderful thing about children; they can really lift your spirits in times like that.”

Jupiter, 1 year old

Sheeran and Seaborn’s second child, Jupiter, was born in May 2022. He once again shared the happy news on Instagram on May 19 alongside a photo of socks and a crocheted blanket, writing, “We’ve had another beautiful baby girl. We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to be a family of 4.” However, at the time, the parents did not share their daughter’s name.

In March 2023, Sheeran revealed her name, Jupiter, in his Rolling Stone cover story. He also shared that the couple considered welcoming their daughter into the world early after learning that Seaborn had a tumor. Ultimately, his wife carried the baby to term and underwent a “successful surgery” a month after giving birth. While Sheeran has been extremely private about both of his children, he did share a touching tribute to his baby girl when he added the song “Welcome to the World” to his special Tour Edition of his album =. “Welcome to the world/I heard your heartbeat and lost every word/Just stood there quietly taking in the sound/Of our love,” he sings.

The recording also includes a tender moment between Sheeran and Seaborn while she was pregnant with baby No. 2. “You got the kick?” he asks. “It just kicked!” she replies with a laugh.

In Sheeran’s October 2022 appearance on Good Morning America, he mentioned that his second baby was born while he was on tour. He also opened up about being a father of two during an “Ask Me Anything” segment. “Yeah, it’s great, I mean it’s like, it’s kind of every cliche that  say about parenting you know, you love both kids exactly the same but also completely differently,” he said, adding, “It’s great, I’m really enjoying being a father of two.”

Who Is Ed Sheeran's Wife? All About Cherry Seaborn

Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, have one of the sweetest love stories in Hollywood. The couple has known each other since they were kids and started dating after reuniting in New York City in 2015. In January 2018, Sheeran and Seaborn secretly got married during an intimate ceremony with only 40 guests. Nearly two years later, they welcomed their first child, daughter Lyra Antarctica, and in May 2022, their second child, daughter Jupiter, arrived.

While pregnant with Jupiter, Seaborn was diagnosed with cancer. She spoke publicly about her health for the first time in Sheeran’s Disney+ docuseries, Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which premiered in May 2023. The “Shivers” singer also opened up about his wife and how much she means to him. “Everything in my life got so much better when Cherry got into it,” Sheeran can be heard saying in the series trailer.

Despite her high-profile relationship, Seaborn is a private person who doesn’t have public social media accounts and tends to stay out of the spotlight. Still, here’s everything we know about her and her relationship with Sheeran.
