Zara Tindall’s daughters, Mia Grace and Lena Elizabeth, and son, Lucas Philip, rank among the British royal family’s most endearing young members.

The only daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, Zara is the eldest granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth and the niece of King Charles. She’s also first cousin to Prince William and Prince Harry. Unlike many of their royal relatives, however, Zara and her older brother, Peter Phillips, were raised without royal titles — a deliberate choice made by their parents to give them a more normal upbringing.

“I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most would argue that there are downsides to having titles,” Princess Anne told Vanity Fair in 2020. “So I think that was probably the right thing to do.”

Zara shares three children with her husband, former professional rugby player Mike Tindall. The couple married in 2011 and welcomed their first daughter, Mia, in 2014, followed by Lena in 2018 and son Lucas in 2021. After becoming parents for the third time, Mike described the experience as a major shift in their lives and relationship.

“A marriage or long-term relationship can’t always be roses and rainbows,” he said during a 2021 appearance on Loose Women. “When you have children, that is a massive shock — a change to your system that you’ve never experienced. There are going to be rocky roads.”

He added, “There are things that test both of you and test the relationship. No one is right, no one is wrong. You just have to work through it together.”

Zara has also passed down her lifelong love of horses to her children. She told in 2023 that riding is a shared family passion, and the kids have often been spotted cheering her on at equestrian events over the years.

Here’s everything to know about Zara Tindall’s three children: Mia Grace, Lena Elizabeth and Lucas Philip.

Zara and Mike’s first child, Mia Grace Tindall, was born on Jan. 17, 2014, at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. She is currently 22nd in line to the throne, directly behind her mother, though like her siblings, she does not hold a royal title.

“Definitely the best day of my life,” Mike wrote on social media at the time of her birth, adding that both mother and baby were doing well.

As the eldest, Mia already had royal cousins when she was born, including Peter Phillips’ daughters Savannah and Isla, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son, Prince George.

“We’ve got a good little crew of royal youngsters going on there now,” Mike told Hello! in 2016. “They all seem to get on and enjoy each other’s company.”

Mia played a meaningful role in helping her parents through a difficult period after Zara suffered a miscarriage. “The saving grace for us has been Mia,” Mike told The Sunday Times in 2017, adding that spending more time with his daughter brought perspective and joy.

As she’s grown older, Mia has begun appearing at more public royal events. She served as a bridesmaid at Princess Eugenie’s 2018 wedding and charmed royal watchers in 2022 when she was spotted joking around with Prince George during the family’s Christmas church outing at Sandringham. The following year, she was seen holding hands with Prince Louis and exchanging flowers with Princess Charlotte and the Princess of Wales.

Lena Elizabeth Tindall, 7

Zara and Mike welcomed their second daughter, Lena Elizabeth Tindall, on June 18, 2018, near their home in Gloucestershire. She is currently 23rd in line to the throne. Her middle name honors her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, while her first name — pronounced “Lay-na” — was simply a favorite of her parents.

Buckingham Palace announced her arrival in a statement, noting that Mike was present for the birth and that Lena weighed 9 pounds, 3 ounces.

Zara later revealed that she experienced two miscarriages before welcoming Lena. “You need to go through a period where you don’t talk about it because it’s too raw,” she told The Sunday Times in 2018.

Shortly after Lena’s birth, Mike spoke to about adjusting to life with two children. “It’s been brilliant so far,” he said. “She eats, sleeps — so far, so good.”

Like her older sister, Lena has already made a handful of public appearances. As a baby, she posed for a family photo with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and several great-grandchildren. She also made headlines in 2022 when she wore a red coat previously worn by her cousin Isla during the family’s Christmas outing.

Lucas Philip Tindall, 4

The youngest of the Tindall children, Lucas Philip Tindall, was born on March 21, 2021, and is currently 24th in line to the throne. His middle name honors both Zara’s grandfather Prince Philip and Mike’s father, who shares the same name — a nod made even more fitting by Zara’s maiden surname, Phillips.

Unlike his sisters, Lucas made a dramatic entrance into the world at home — in the family bathroom. “A little baby boy arrived at my house!” Mike revealed on his podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.

With little time to reach the hospital, Zara’s friend helped prepare the space while midwives rushed to the house. “Fortunately, the midwife got there just in time,” Mike recalled.

Lucas has already taken part in special family moments, including a joint christening with his cousin August Brooksbank in November 2021 — an event attended by Queen Elizabeth. “It was a lovely day,” Mike later shared.

Like his sisters, Lucas has been introduced early to his mother’s equestrian world. He’s been spotted watching Zara compete and was affectionately dubbed Mike’s mini-me after being photographed sitting on his father’s shoulders during one of her competitions in 2023.
