Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert continue to describe themselves as “one hell of a team” even after deciding to end their seven-year marriage.

The “Bare Wit Me” singer filed for divorce in January 2023, though the couple waited about nine months before publicly sharing news of their split. In an Instagram post, Taylor reassured fans that she and Shumpert remain close friends and are committed to raising their two daughters together: Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 10, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 5.

“Most importantly, we are FAMILY,” Taylor wrote, emphasizing the bond they built during their decade together, including seven years of marriage.

Throughout the years, Taylor and Shumpert have shared many meaningful moments with their daughters, from gracing the cover of Ebony magazine to modeling as a family for Skims’ Cozy Collection.

As a toddler, Junie was already showing her energetic personality. In a 2017 interview with GQ, Taylor and Shumpert shared that she loved trips to Chuck E. Cheese and thrived in busy, lively environments. Shumpert joked that she never slowed down, whether she was exploring other tables, watching basketball games, or clapping along while staring up at the Jumbotron.

When Taylor was expecting their second child, she told that Junie was eagerly preparing to become a big sister. She shared that Junie frequently kissed her belly, talked to the baby, and picked out items for her sibling, clearly excited for the role.

The couple’s younger daughter, Rue Rose Shumpert, was born on Sept. 6, 2020. Like her older sister, Rue arrived earlier than expected and was born at home, just one day after Taylor’s baby shower.

Shumpert announced Rue’s birth on Instagram, celebrating her arrival and expressing love for his growing family. Taylor had previously revealed her pregnancy in June 2020 through the music video for her song “Wake Up Love,” which featured sweet moments with Shumpert and Junie before unveiling her baby bump.

Throughout her pregnancy, Taylor also appeared on the cover of CR Fashion Book, marking another milestone during that special time.

Both parents commemorated Rue’s first birthday online, sharing messages and photos in her honor. Taylor wrote a loving note about how special Rue is to her, while Shumpert encouraged his daughter to continue seeing the world with kindness.

In an episode of We Got Love Teyana & Iman, the family shared another meaningful moment by taking Rue to get her ears pierced, continuing a family tradition. Beforehand, Taylor explained that she had her ears pierced as a baby, and the family paused to say a prayer together.

By April 2023, Taylor joked to about how quickly Rue was growing up, especially when it came to talking. She playfully shared that her youngest daughter had become especially chatty, marveling at how fast both girls were developing.
