Sting is a proud father of six. The former Police frontman was married to actress Frances Tomelty from 1976 to 1984, and the two share son Joe Sumner, 48, and daughter Fuschia Sumner, 42. After their split in the early ‘80s, Sting (born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) found love with Trudie Styler. The couple, who had already been together for a decade, tied the knot in August 1992. Together, they have four children: Mickey Sumner, 41, Jake Sumner, 39, Eliot Sumner, 34, and Giacomo Sumner, 29. In a February 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Sting admitted that fatherhood wasn’t something he had planned, saying, “I never intended to be a dad.”
Joe Sumner, 48 years old
Sting’s eldest child, Joe Sumner, was born on Nov. 23, 1976, in London—just a year before his father formed The Police. He attended the Cambridge School of Weston before studying environmental science at Richmond University in London. Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe built a career in music. As a teenager, he was inspired to write his own lyrics after discovering Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind. In 1999, he formed the band Fiction Plane with a schoolmate, and they released their debut album, Everything Will Never Be OK, in March 2003. A few years later, in 2007, Fiction Plane had the opportunity to open for The Police during their reunion tour.

Mickey Sumner, 41 years old
Born Brigitte Michael “Mickey” Sumner on Jan. 19, 1984, in London, Mickey is the eldest child of Sting and Trudie Styler. In 2004, she moved to New York City, where she earned a BFA in Fine Art from Parsons School of Design.
Though she initially pursued modeling, she quickly realized her true passion was acting—later joking in a September 2013 interview with W Magazine that she was “the world’s worst model.” During a May 2013 interview with Interview Magazine, Mickey recalled the moment she told her family about her career change. “I got a BFA in Fine Art, and then I told my family I was going to be an actress,” she said. “They were like, ‘What?
Where is your fallback plan?'”
Jake Sumner, 39 years old
Sting and Styler welcomed their second child, Jake Sumner, on May 24, 1985, in Paris. His birth was even featured in Bring On The Night, a 1985 documentary directed by Michael Apted that chronicled Sting’s early solo career. Today, Jake is a filmmaker and serves as the creative director of the production company AllDayEveryDay. Like his mother, he has directed several award-winning documentaries, including Fantastic Man: Who is William Onyeabor and I Was There When House Took Over The World. He has also directed films and commercial projects for major brands such as Nike, Google, and Tiffany & Co.
Eliot Sumner, 34 years old
Eliot Paulina Sumner was born on July 30, 1990, in Pisa, Italy, and grew up in Wiltshire, England. In an interview with The Cut, Eliot recalled receiving their first guitar as a gift for their 4th or 5th birthday. They wrote their first song at age 13, and by 14, had formed their own band. Eliot attended Bryanston School for three years before going on to Hampstead College of Fine Arts at 17, according to The Independent. At 18, Eliot signed a multi-album deal with Island Records. Looking back on the experience, they described the process of recording an album while still in school as “difficult.”
Giacomo Sumner, 29 years old
Sting’s youngest child, Giacomo Sumner, was born in England on Dec. 17, 1995. Giacomo later attended California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, where he graduated in May 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Styler marked the milestone with a heartfelt post on Facebook, congratulating her son. “Congratulations, G. Dad and I are so very proud of you,” she wrote. “Your hard work has paid off! We love you.” While living in California, Giacomo also pursued acting, landing small roles in films like We’re Going to the Zoo, Ten Thousand Saints, and American Typecast.
