All About Sophia Loren’s Four Grandchildren

Sophia Loren is a devoted grandmother who cherishes her family above all.

The Two Women star has four grandchildren through her sons, Carlo Ponti Jr. and Edoardo Ponti.

“I have two beautiful children and they gave me grandchildren, so I’m surrounded by great love every day,” she shared with the Financial Times in 2020.

She became a grandmother for the first time in 2006 when Edoardo and his wife, Sasha Alexander, welcomed their daughter Lucia. A year later, Carlo Jr. and his wife, Andrea Meszaros Ponti, had a son, Vittorio, marking Loren’s first grandson.

Her family continued to grow with the arrival of Leonardo in 2010, born to Edoardo and Sasha, and Beatrice in 2012, the second child of Carlo Jr. and Andrea.

All four grandchildren were born in Geneva, where Loren resides, and they share a close bond with her. They often support her ventures — from restaurant openings to red carpet appearances — and are a constant presence in her life.

“I live for my family,” Loren said during a 2016 appearance on Today. “I have the most beautiful grandchildren that I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Lucia Sofia Ponti, 19

Edoardo and Sasha welcomed their first child, Lucia Sofia Ponti, on May 12, 2006, making her Loren’s first grandchild. She was named in honor of her grandmother, using Loren’s birth name, Sofia, as her middle name.

Before Lucia was born, Edoardo wrote a collection of poems dedicated to her, later published in 2018 as Letters from a Young Father.

Though Lucia has largely stayed out of the spotlight, her parents occasionally share glimpses of her life. She has a strong passion for dance and has trained competitively for years. She even attended The Eras Tour with her mother, where they showed off their moves together. Actress Jessica Capshaw, a close family friend and Lucia’s godmother, joined them.

Vittorio Leone Ponti, 19

Carlo Jr. and Andrea welcomed their son Vittorio Leone Ponti on April 2, 2007. He is Loren’s second grandchild and first grandson.

Growing up in a musical household — with a conductor father and a violinist mother — Vittorio developed a love for music early on, starting piano at just six years old. His talent has earned him multiple accolades, including recognition at the Southern California Junior Bach Festival and the International School of Geneva’s music competition.

Leonardo Fortunato Ponti, 15

Leonardo Fortunato Ponti, born Dec. 20, 2010, is Edoardo and Sasha’s second child.

The couple described his arrival as a joyful moment, calling him a “wonderful gift” to the family. As he’s grown, Leonardo has largely stayed out of the public eye, though his mother has occasionally shared snapshots of family life.

He shares a playful sibling bond with his sister Lucia, often engaging in lively interactions that Sasha once described as both entertaining and full of personality. Like his family members, Leonardo has also shown a love for music and dance — even grooving to Gold Digger in a fun video shared online.

Beatrice Lara Ponti, 14

Carlo Jr. and Andrea welcomed their daughter Beatrice Lara Ponti on March 15, 2012, completing Loren’s quartet of grandchildren.

Though her upbringing has been kept private, Beatrice has made a few charming public appearances with her grandmother. At just four years old, she captured attention at a Dolce & Gabbana show when she sweetly offered to carry Loren’s bag.

She also joined Loren at the opening of the Sophia Loren Restaurant in 2022, where the pair shared a warm moment together.
