Quick answer: Robert De Niro has seven children: Drena, Raphael, twins Julian and Airyn, Elliot, Helen Grace and Gia Virginia. They span four family branches and more than five decades. Drena is his adopted daughter; Gia, born 6 April 2023, is the youngest.

The count is simple; the relationships are not. Drena joined the family through adoption, Julian and Airyn are twins, and Gia arrived 56 years after the year commonly reported for Drena’s birth. A useful page must map those facts without flattening seven lives into “followed Dad into acting”.

It must also stay current. Airyn publicly told her own story in 2025 and uses that name. Older guides that still list “Aaron” are not neutral archives; they are outdated.

Public sources conflict over a precise day and sometimes year for Drena, so this guide uses 1971 as the commonly reported year and does not pretend the discrepancy is resolved. Exactness is valuable only when evidence supports it.

For another adult sibling group with different careers, see Christopher Reeve’s three children. For an entertainment family with a smaller child count, read Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s three children.

How the four branches fit together

De Niro married actor Diahnne Abbott in 1976. He adopted her daughter Drena, and the couple had Raphael. With former partner Toukie Smith, he had twins Julian and Airyn in 1995.

His marriage to Grace Hightower produced Elliot and Helen Grace. With Tiffany Chen, he welcomed Gia in April 2023. Associated Press confirmed De Niro was a father of seven; he first corrected an interviewer who referred to six.

Drena and Raphael: the Abbott branch

Drena is Abbott’s daughter from an earlier relationship and was adopted by De Niro. Adoption makes her his daughter; a family map should not demote that relationship with “stepdaughter”. She has worked in acting, production and fashion-related fields.

Raphael was born in 1976. His official professional biography identifies him as a Douglas Elliman broker and founder of the De Niro Team, with a role at the Greenwich Hotel. That direct business record is stronger than a celebrity listicle.

The siblings’ public work differs even within one parent branch. Drena has screen and production credits; Raphael moved from early acting work into real estate. Neither path is adequately described as simply inheriting Hollywood.

Julian and Airyn: the Toukie Smith twins

Julian and Airyn were born on 20 October 1995. Julian is an actor whose credits include young Barack Obama in The First Lady and a role in Zero Day.

Airyn De Niro uses her own current name. In a 2025 first-person interview with Them, she described herself as an aspiring model and voice actor studying to become a mental-health counsellor. She also explained that both parents tried to keep her childhood private.

That interview corrects two common failures at once: an outdated name and the assumption that privacy meant no ambitions. Airyn’s current description should come from Airyn, not old family summaries.

Elliot and Helen Grace: the Grace Hightower branch

Elliot was born in 1998. De Niro has publicly discussed his autism, and an ESPN/Special Olympics feature showed his interest in tennis. A diagnosis and one interest should not become his entire biography.

Helen Grace was born in December 2011 via a gestational carrier. She is a minor. A red-carpet appearance with her father in 2025 confirms attendance, not a career launch.

Both children have a lower public profile than their older siblings. The guide does not use that difference to infer closeness, temperament or family hierarchy.

Gia Virginia: the youngest child

Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro was born on 6 April 2023. De Niro disclosed her name and birth date in a CBS interview after confirming that he had seven children.

Gia’s mother is Tiffany Chen. De Niro has described his daughter as a source of joy and discussed wanting her to learn English and Chinese. Those are dated parent comments, not promises about her identity.

Coverage often centres De Niro being 79 at her birth. His age explains why the story attracted attention, but it does not answer who Gia is or justify moral speculation about a young child.

“Adult child” is a family relationship, not an age contradiction. Five of the seven are adults; Helen and Gia are minors. Public evidence grows unevenly because people choose different levels of visibility.

Robert De Niro received an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes in May 2025. That current career honour identifies the father’s continuing public stature without becoming a proxy achievement for any child.

What remains private?

The page reports direct professional biographies and first-person interviews. It excludes addresses, schools, custody arrangements, anonymous health claims and speculation about inheritance.

Airyn’s story shows why privacy and accuracy must work together. Protecting a private childhood does not mean freezing an adult under an old name once she speaks publicly. Conversely, one interview is not permission to compile everything else.

The method is consistent across the KidsCo Celebrity hub, including George Lucas’ family.
