Birth order runs Lourdes on 14 October 1996, Rocco on 11 August 2000, David on 24 September 2005, Mercy on 22 January 2006, then the twins Stella and Estere on 24 August 2012. How six children joined one family

This family was not built in two halves. It runs along four routes, each with its own paperwork: two children born to Madonna by different fathers, one adopted inside her marriage, three adopted after it ended. David’s file is the clearest, because the judgment is public. The High Court of Malawi at Lilongwe, before Justice Andrew Nyirenda, records his birth date as 24 September 2005, an interim order on 12 October 2006, eighteen months of welfare monitoring and a final joint order to Guy Stuart Ritchie and Madonna Louise Ritchie. The 2006 date printed on so many profiles is the interim one. Adoption records are rarely this legible: Lionel Richie’s adoption of Nicole has no public court file at all, so its chronology rests on what the family has said since.

Mercy’s route ran the other way. Madonna applied as a single woman, a lower court refused in April 2009 on residency grounds, and the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned that on 12 June 2009. Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo held that residence is judged at the date of application, and that a person can reside in more than one place.

Stella and Estere came from the Home of Hope orphanage and were granted in February 2017 by Justice Fiona Mwale. Reporting at the time called them four years old, which is right: born on 24 August 2012, they turned five that August. The much-quoted “adopted at five” line came later, and the arithmetic settles it.

Lourdes Leon: the eldest, and now a credited songwriter

Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon was born in Los Angeles on 14 October 1996 and is 29, turning 30 in October. Her father, Carlos Leon, was a fitness trainer when he and Madonna were together, and he has stayed a named, ordinary presence rather than a mystery. Madonna wrote “Little Star” for her on Ray of Light in 1998.

She built a modelling career first, then a separate music one. “Lock&Key” arrived in August 2022 and the Go EP that November, both as Lolahol. By 2026 the suffix had gone: “T Shirt” landed on 27 May 2026 with a video by Eric Yue, and she told W Magazine the next day that she now releases as Lola Leon.

The credit that matters most came on 3 July 2026. Confessions II carries “The Test”, written by Madonna and Lourdes and produced by Stuart Price with Arca. In a joint Billboard interview they called it a song about what public life did to them, and Lourdes said writing it together was her idea. Rocco Ritchie: the painter who built a name before using his own

Rocco John Ritchie was born in Los Angeles on 11 August 2000 and turned 26 nine days before this check. He was christened at Dornoch Cathedral in December 2000, the day before his parents married at Skibo Castle. They divorced in 2008, and a contested custody case ended in September 2016 with Rocco in London with his father.

He trained at Central Saint Martins and the Royal Drawing School, then exhibited in his early twenties as Rhed so that buyers judged the paintings before the surname. Pack a Punch, charcoal portraits of Muay Thai fighters, showed in Miami’s Design District in 2024, and paparazzi-inspired paintings followed in Paris with Giorgio Armani.

In December 2025 he opened Talk Is Cheap in London with his mentor Tony Cassanelli after a summer carving marble in Carrara: sculpture, a 500-kilo slab of Spanish marble and a painted portrait of his twin sisters. Madonna and Guy Ritchie were photographed together at the opening for the first time since 2008, alongside Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whose own two children KidsCo profiles.

Reports date that opening between 15 and 17 December 2025. The studio interview published on 16 December, on the eve of the private view, is the stronger account because it worked from the schedule rather than the party. David Banda and Mercy James: two adoptions, two very different court roads

David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie was born on 24 September 2005 and is 20. His is the only birth date on this page that sits inside a published judgment. Mercy, born Chifundo James on 22 January 2006, turned 20 in January. Ten weeks apart in age, thirteen months apart in adoption, and told as one story almost everywhere. Where a child’s relationship to the family trade rests on a parent’s dated quote rather than a credit, the comparison is Novak Djokovic’s two children, whose only tennis evidence is one sentence their father said out loud.

David’s working record is unusually well documented for a 20-year-old. He asked for and got a songwriting credit on “Batuka” on Madame X in 2019. He played guitar on the Celebration Tour, including the “Mother and Father” duet and the Act of Contrition solo inside “Like a Prayer”. In September 2024 he walked Off-White’s spring 2025 show at New York Fashion Week.

Mercy’s record is musical and much quieter. Madonna shared clips of her playing Mozart and Debussy in 2019, and on the Celebration Tour she accompanied “Bad Girl” on piano in front of arena crowds. Classical training that survives a live tour is a real skill, and that part of her story rests on footage rather than recollection.
