Chevy Chase has spent decades making audiences laugh, but his most meaningful role has been offscreen—as a father to his three daughters: Cydney, Caley and Emily.
The National Lampoon star shares his children with his wife, Jayni Chase (née Luke), whom he married in 1982. While Chase is known for his legendary career in comedy, he has largely kept his family life private, occasionally opening up about fatherhood and the close bond he shares with his daughters.
The couple welcomed their first daughter, Cydney Cathalene Chase, in January 1983. Two years later, they became parents again with the birth of Caley Leigh Chase in January 1985. Their youngest daughter, Emily Evelyn Chase, was born in September 1988, completing the family of five.
Though Chevy Chase’s career often kept him in the public eye, his daughters grew up mostly away from the spotlight. Over the years, Chase has spoken about how becoming a father changed his priorities, grounding him and giving him a deeper sense of purpose beyond his work in film and television.
Today, Cydney, Caley and Emily are all grown, each forging her own path while remaining close to their parents. For Chase, fatherhood has been one of his greatest achievements—one that has endured long after the laughter fades.
Cydney Chase, 43
Chevy and Jayni welcomed their first daughter, Cydney Cathalene Chase, on January 4, 1983. She even appeared on the cover at just eight months old, as her father shared his early reactions to parenthood. “I was terrified before having a child,” he admitted, noting that he read childcare books and attended Lamaze classes out of sheer worry.
“When Cyd came out and I saw it was a girl, I was in love immediately,” Chase said. “I cut the umbilical cord and held her for the first hour. She seemed to know my voice because I had been singing and talking to her through the belly for nine months.”
Cydney’s early years were filled with tender family moments—bathing, feeding, and nightly routines shared with her parents. Today, she is a singer-songwriter and artist who documents her passions for painting, yoga, and nature on Instagram. She often shares music covers on piano or guitar, including songs by Alicia Keys and Nirvana.
Cydney is married to Ryan Bartell, a real estate agent, and often posts loving tributes to her father. On Father’s Day 2023, she wrote: “Happy Father’s Day to a man who holds onto a sense of humor that is wildly constant and loving. Thank you, Dab, for all you do and for keeping me laughing!”
Caley Chase, 40
Chevy and Jayni’s second daughter, Caley, was born on January 19, 1985. At age 10, she moved with her family from Los Angeles to New York City, where her love of storytelling and creativity flourished.
Caley pursued acting, music, and screenwriting, attending LOLAS Acting School in L.A. and becoming the first female pianist at the iconic Comedy Store. She has worked professionally in film and TV, even appearing alongside her father in projects like Hotel Hell Vacation (2010), Before I Sleep (2013), and Zombie Town (2023).
Growing up with a famous father had its challenges, but Caley maintains a close bond with Chase. On Father’s Day 2020, she shared a heartfelt tribute: “I’m so lucky to have you to bounce ideas off of, giggle with, and share stories with—through all the ups and downs. You inspire me every day!” Caley married her husband, Milo, in June 2022.
Emily Chase, 37
Chevy and Jayni’s youngest, Emily, was born on September 29, 1988. Like her sisters, Emily shares a love for music and started her first band at age 9. She later performed in a jazz trio in Connecticut and has always been close to family pets, often sharing photos with the family’s cats, dogs, chickens, and horses.
Emily graduated from Barnard College with a degree in political science and English, later working for the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and eventually joining the National Audubon Society, where she advanced to director of board engagement.
A devoted “#daddysgirl,” Emily frequently posts photos with her father, from cozy at-home moments to public appearances. For Chevy’s 80th birthday in October 2023, she shared a series of photos and heartfelt words:
“Today the big Dab is 80, and what a life he’s led… at his core, he is deeply loving, sensitive, and a hilarious pain in the a–. We wouldn’t have it any other way. My BFF!”
In August 2024, Emily welcomed her first child, a daughter named Ivy Jay Baglieri, with partner Alex Baglieri, making Chevy a grandfather for the first time.
