Alyson Hannigan has always put motherhood first when it comes to raising her two daughters, Satyana and Keeva.

The How I Met Your Mother star has been married to fellow actor Alexis Denisof for more than two decades. The couple first met while working on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and later tied the knot on Oct. 11, 2003. They welcomed their first daughter, Satyana, in 2009, followed by their second daughter, Keeva, in 2012.

Balancing life as a working actress on a hit sitcom while raising young children wasn’t always simple, but Hannigan embraced the challenge. “It’s always a juggling act, the whole working mom thing,” she shared with Parade in 2013.

After How I Met Your Mother wrapped in 2014, Hannigan stepped back to focus more fully on her family, later choosing roles that aligned with her life as a mom.

“It’s a nonstop, wonderfully hard job, but it’s so rewarding,” she told TODAY in 2017. “Becoming a mom changes your entire world.”

Satyana Marie Denisof, 17

Hannigan and Denisof welcomed their first child, Satyana Marie Denisof, on March 24, 2009.

Shortly after her birth, Hannigan shared details about choosing a home birth, calling it a deeply personal and positive experience. She also revealed the meaning behind her daughter’s name, explaining that “Satyana” is rooted in Sanskrit and means “truth,” with a slight variation to complement their family name.

During her pregnancy, Hannigan was filming How I Met Your Mother alongside Cobie Smulders, who was also expecting at the time. The two bonded over their shared experience and continued that connection after their daughters were born, often bringing them to set for playdates.

Over the years, Satyana has occasionally stepped into the spotlight. In 2018, she appeared with her mom on MasterChef Junior Celebrity Showdown, showing off her cooking skills.

Now a teenager, Satyana has entered a new phase of life—one that Hannigan says revolves around open communication and trust. “It’s about having conversations and creating a space where your kids feel comfortable talking about anything,” she shared in 2025.

Keeva Jane Denisof, 13

The couple’s second daughter, Keeva Jane Denisof, was born on May 23, 2012.

Like with her first child, Hannigan chose a home birth for Keeva, explaining that she preferred the comfort and familiarity of being at home. The name “Keeva,” which has Gaelic origins, stood out to the couple right away and carries meanings like “beautiful” and “gentle.”

Hannigan has often spoken about the close bond between her daughters, noting that Satyana quickly embraced her role as a big sister, while Keeva has always looked up to her.

As Keeva has grown, she’s shown a flair for creativity and performance. Hannigan has shared that her youngest daughter loves entertaining and even creates her own characters, hinting at a possible interest in following in her parents’ footsteps.

Though both girls are relatively private, Hannigan continues to center her life around family, embracing both the challenges and joys that come with raising two daughters.
