Chris Evert’s 3 Children: Meet the Tennis Legend’s Sons Alexander, Nicholas and Colton

by Kristine Bowman

Alongside her celebrated career filled with Grand Slam titles, tennis icon Chris Evert also embraces her most cherished role — being a mother to three boys.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, Evert transformed tennis with her signature baseline style. She spent five years as the world’s No. 1 player, became the first woman to hold the top WTA ranking, and secured a record-setting seven French Open championships.

In 1988, Evert married two-time Olympic skier Andy Mill. A year later, she retired from professional tennis, and together the couple welcomed three children: Alexander in 1991, Nicholas in 1994, and Colton in 1996.

“The best thing about being Chris Evert are my boys and being a mother,” she told We Are Tennis in February 2025. “I love my boys … that’s been the highlight of my life.”

Here’s a closer look at Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton — and the roles they’ve played in Evert’s life.

A Busy, Sport-Filled Household

With two accomplished athletes as parents, it’s no surprise Evert’s sons grew up surrounded by sports and adventure.

In a 2006 interview with Sports Illustrated, Evert described her Florida home as stocked with everything from lacrosse sticks and dirt bikes to skateboards and paintball gear.

“It’s an active household,” she said. “But I think I was meant to be a mother of boys. They’re not high maintenance. They don’t fight over dresses. They have one favorite T-shirt and a favorite pair of pants, and that’s it.

Alexander Joins His Mom on Tennis Broadcasts

Although none of her sons pursued professional tennis, Evert’s eldest, Alexander, has stepped into her world as a commentator.

Ahead of the 2024 US Open semifinals, he joined his mom on air to break down Aryna Sabalenka’s match against Emma Navarro, offering thoughtful analysis on both players’ strengths and strategies.

Nicholas Welcomed a Son in 2024

In May 2024, Evert announced on Instagram that Nicholas and his wife, Rebecca, had welcomed their first child, Hayden, making her a grandmother.

Sharing updates of Hayden’s milestones — from first steps to family fishing trips — Evert later reflected on the joy of this new chapter. “I thought nothing can top having a child,” she told We Are Tennis. “But having a grandchild is double the fun, because you’re also seeing your son being a father.

Colton Stays Out of the Spotlight

The youngest of Evert’s sons, Colton, prefers a quieter life but has accompanied his mother to special occasions. He appeared alongside his family at the 2012 Legends Ball and again in 2017 at the Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic gala in Boca Raton, Florida.

A Shared Passion with Their Dad

While Alexander has shared his mother’s passion for tennis, Nicholas found common ground with his father through fishing. Together, Nicholas and Andy Mill co-host the Mill House Podcast, where they share conversations with pioneers and legends of the outdoors.

A Strong Support System

Evert’s sons have consistently supported her charitable efforts, including her foundation’s 2016 event dedicated to preventing drug abuse. “Love having the support of my boys at this event,” she wrote on Instagram.

They’ve also celebrated her personally, like Alexander’s heartfelt birthday tribute to his mom in 2024.

For Evert, though, it’s clear her greatest legacy isn’t only on the court but in the family she’s built with Alexander, Nicholas, and Colton by her side.
