Sheinelle Jones' 3 Kids: Everything to Know About Kayin, Clara, and Uche

by Kristine Bowman

Sheinelle Jones may start her mornings bright and early as a co-host of one of America’s most beloved morning shows, but her most important role is being a mom. The TODAY show anchor shares three children with her late husband, Uche Ojeh, who sadly passed away in May 2025 at the age of 45 after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

The couple, who married in 2007, welcomed their first son, Kayin, in August 2009, followed by twins Clara and Uche in July 2012. Despite her demanding schedule—which includes a 5 a.m. wake-up call—Sheinelle has worked hard to create balance in her life so she can show up for her children.

“When it’s earlier, they’re still sleeping. I try not to do interviews after 3, so I can pick my kids up at school,” Jones told The Miami Moms. “Earlier in my career I felt like I was losing touch with the kids because I was doing interviews before or after school. And once you have those boundaries, everyone knows.”

She added that being fully present during family time is her top priority: “When I’m with my kids, I want them to know I’m with them. If I’m at a game or a show for my daughter, I try to be all in.”

From presidential visits to birthday milestones, here’s everything to know about Sheinelle Jones’ three children: Kayin, Clara, and Uche.

Kayin Ojeh, 15

Born on August 27, 2009, Kayin is the eldest of Sheinelle and Uche’s children. From a young age, he showed a strong love for learning. In a 2024 Instagram post celebrating his 8th-grade graduation, Sheinelle wrote that even in Pre-K, Kayin was “ready to soak up everything they could teach you.”

Kayin might be following in his mother’s media footsteps. In 2021, he appeared on NBC Nightly News: Kids Edition with Lester Holt, where he interviewed one of his favorite authors—Diary of a Wimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney. Sheinelle recalled how nervous she was setting it up: “I do this all the time, but for him… he really practiced,” she said on TODAY. “I told him, ‘Kayin, when he answers, you may need a follow-up question.

Clara and Uche Ojeh, 13

Fraternal twins Clara and Uche were born on July 10, 2012, in the same Philadelphia hospital where both their mother and older brother were born. When they were toddlers, Sheinelle wrote an essay for TODAY about the unique challenges of raising twins.

“I wish I had known earlier how important it is to learn who they are as individuals and feed their own particular needs, while also teaching them that they are a team,” she shared.

Now in their early teens, Clara and Uche have grown into distinct personalities but still enjoy shared moments. In 2023, the twins joined Sheinelle at the U.S. Open, where they had a special role as ball kids—a moment she proudly shared with her audience.

Sheinelle and Uche's Love Story

Before they were partners in parenthood, Sheinelle and Uche shared a love story that spanned nearly two decades. They met in the late 1990s at Northwestern University—Jones was a freshman, and Uche was a high school senior touring the campus.

In a sweet twist of fate, Sheinelle pretended to be a campus tour guide just to get a chance to talk to him. “I was a fake tour guide… I was just walking to class,” she revealed in Northwestern’s Winter 2024 alumni magazine. “I said, ‘Are you guys lost?’ and offered to show him around because he was cute.”

The two married in 2007 and remained deeply committed partners until Uche’s passing in 2025. Their nearly 18-year marriage was filled with love, laughter, and mutual support—and together, they built a beautiful family.
