Dame Joan Collins may be best known for playing fierce matriarchs on screen — especially her iconic role on Dynasty — but off camera, she’s a devoted mother of three. The Golden Globe-winning actress shares daughter Tara Newley, 61, and son Alexander Newley, 59, with her second husband, Doctor Dolittle star Anthony Newley. Her youngest child, daughter Katyana Kass, 53, is from her third marriage to music executive Ron Kass.
Collins has been married to her fifth husband, Percy Gibson, for over 20 years. While the couple doesn’t share any children together, they remain a strong and supportive pair.
In her 2022 documentary This Is Joan Collins, the legendary actress opened up about the joys of raising a family, saying, “Motherhood was really exciting and I loved every minute of it.” In an earlier interview with Hello! magazine, she added that her children’s happiness is what brings her the most joy. Her daughter Tara echoed that sentiment in a 2020 interview with The Sunday Times, calling her mom “an incredibly supportive, loving mother and friend.” She added, “When you get down to it, she’s not very different to most mums. She just happens to be Joan Collins — a total legend.
Tara Newley, 61
Joan welcomed her first child, Tara, on October 12, 1963, during her marriage to Anthony Newley. After their divorce in 1971, Tara primarily lived with her mother. It was Tara, as Collins once shared, who convinced her to accept a role on Star Trek — even before she realized how popular the series was.
Tara later pursued a career in writing and journalism. A literature graduate of Boston University, she worked in London as a columnist and screenwriter. In 2020, she published her debut novel Radio Honey, which Joan proudly promoted on Instagram, calling it a “fabulously funny novel, full of great insights into the female psyche.
Alexander Newley, 59
Known affectionately as “Sacha,” Alexander was born on September 8, 1965. Like his sister, he has a passion for storytelling. He’s published two books: a memoir titled Unaccompanied Minor in 2017 and Divining The Human – The Art of Alexander Newley in 2023. Joan supported him at his book launch, smiling alongside him with a copy in hand.
Alexander is also an acclaimed portrait artist. In an interview with Interview magazine, he described his path to art as an extension of his interest in consciousness and human nature: “I’ve always been really interested in, because fundamental reality is a mystery to them.
Katyana Kass, 53
Joan’s youngest child, Katyana “Katy” Kass, was born on June 20, 1972. Tragedy struck when Katy was just 8 years old — she was hit by a car and sustained serious brain injuries. In her documentary, Collins described it as “the worst thing that ever happened” to her. She recalled being told her daughter wouldn’t survive after falling into a coma.
The accident put a strain on Joan’s marriage to Ron Kass, who began struggling with substance abuse during this time. They divorced in 1983 but remained close until his passing in 1986. Today, Katyana lives a quiet life out of the spotlight, although Joan occasionally shares sweet photos of her on social media.

Joan Collins has been happily married to her fifth husband, producer Percy Gibson, since 2002. The pair met in 2000 while working together on the play Love Letters, which Percy produced. Despite their 32-year age gap, their bond has remained strong over the decades.
