Macklemore’s 3 Kids: All About His Daughters Sloane and Colette and Son Hugo

by Kristine Bowman

Macklemore, born Benjamin Haggerty, credits his greatest motivation in life to his family—especially his three children: Sloane, 10, Colette, 7, and Hugo, 3. He shares his kids with wife Tricia Davis, whom he married in June 2015, just one month after welcoming their first child together.

The Grammy-winning rapper has spoken openly about how fatherhood has shaped his life and fueled his sobriety journey. “It is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever known. It’s the thing that I’m most proud of,” he told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth in June 2023. Macklemore, who has struggled with addiction since his teens, revealed in January 2022 that he experienced a relapse during the pandemic—a difficult period he says was made easier by the love and support of his family. “It was really painful for myself and for the  who loved me. I stopped doing the work,” he admitted.

Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, 10

Macklemore and Davis welcomed their first child, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, on May 29, 2015. The rapper shared the news two months later with the release of “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song),” a collaboration with Ryan Lewis and Ed Sheeran, along with an emotional message on Facebook.

In the post, Macklemore opened up about the fear he felt upon learning he was going to be a father—worries about his sobriety, career, and readiness. “She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life,” he wrote. Becoming a dad was a turning point in his recovery. “It was a wake-up call that I desperately needed. I got sober and I got happy again,” he told MTV News in 2015.

Colette “Coco” Koala Haggerty, 7

Macklemore and Davis expanded their family with the birth of their second daughter, Colette Koala Haggerty—affectionately nicknamed “Coco”—on March 16, 2018. Macklemore shared the joyful news during a radio interview in Ireland, revealing she was born just before St. Patrick’s Day.

He later celebrated Davis in a heartfelt Mother’s Day tribute, writing on Instagram, “To witness the strength, endurance, and love it takes to become a mother is the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced.” The post featured a sweet home video of Davis in the hospital.

Soon after Coco’s birth, Macklemore was back on tour—something he admitted wasn’t easy. “It’s strange to spend eight days with my newborn and then to leave and go on tour,” he told Fault Magazine. “I don’t even know my baby yet. I’ve been away from her more than I’ve been there… but FaceTime is a beautiful thing in the meantime.”

Hugo Jack Haggerty, 3

The couple’s third child, and first son, Hugo Jack Haggerty, was born on July 30, 2021. Tricia announced his birth six weeks later on Instagram with a serene photo and touching caption: “He arrived rooted and calm, mostly just observing the two whirling dervishes around him.”

Hugo may be young, but he’s already showing signs of musical talent. “He’s got this bop to him… it’s on beat, goes back and forth,” Macklemore told Esquire in March 2023. The proud dad often shares sweet moments with Hugo online, including videos of him drumming, playing flute, and recording silly songs together.

While Macklemore is open about sharing glimpses of his family life on social media, he’s also mindful of its impact. “It’s not about shielding my kids from social media, but I’m definitely going to hold off as long as possible,” he told Hunger Magazine in 2023. Instead of avoiding the topic, he aims to prepare his children with honest conversations about comparison and self-worth: “‘Comparison is the thief of joy’—that is a quote my kids should know.”

Macklemore and Tricia Davis: A Creative Partnership and Growing Family

Macklemore and Tricia Davis have been together since 2006 and officially tied the knot in summer 2015 after the birth of their daughter Sloane. In early 2021, Davis revealed her third pregnancy via Instagram, calling their baby on the way a “summer baby.”

Macklemore has often praised his wife’s strength and creativity, especially as a mother. In a 2020 Mother’s Day tribute, he wrote, “All these years, I always knew that you’d be the best mother… You have passed down humor, compassion, grit, empathy, and the spirit of wonder.”
