Chris Rock’s 2 Daughters: Get to Know Lola and Zahra

by Kristine Bowman

Chris Rock might be known for his sharp wit and comedic genius, but offstage, he’s first and foremost a devoted dad. The legendary comedian shares two daughters — Lola Simone Rock and Zahra Savannah Rock — with his ex-wife, philanthropist Malaak Compton-Rock. The couple split in 2014, finalizing their divorce two years later, but they continue to co-parent their daughters.

Rock has always been candid about fatherhood, even joking that he’s far from the “cool dad” type. Still, being a parent has deeply influenced his work. “I think I’m a better artist. Everything I’ve done since I’ve had kids is better than the stuff I did before,” he said in 2007.

Lola Simone Rock, 22

Born on June 28, 2002, in New York City, Lola is Rock’s eldest daughter. As a child, she occasionally joined her dad on red carpets but has otherwise kept a relatively low public profile. That hasn’t stopped Rock from proudly sharing her accomplishments.

In 2017, while touring, he posted a heartfelt update: “Lola got a great report card today. And Zahra got an A on her math test. I’m on tour missing my babies. Dallas tonight.”

Lola graduated from the Bergen Passaic chapter of Jack & Jill of America in June 2020, where the virtual ceremony featured a surprise speech by none other than Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Around the same time, her mother revealed on Instagram that Lola was preparing for a big new chapter: university in Europe.

“Food and travel is her love language,” Compton-Rock wrote. “She sees life through the lens of communicating through food, culture, and community. She is an extraordinary human being and I love her so!”

Zahra Savannah Rock, 21

Chris and Malaak welcomed Zahra on May 22, 2004. Like her sister, Zahra made an early red carpet appearance — walking the Bee Movie premiere with her dad at just three years old.

One of Zahra’s more memorable moments in the spotlight came at the 2016 Oscars, when her dad made a humorous but heartfelt plea to help sell her Girl Scout cookies. “Last night Zahra, my youngest, called me up and said, ‘Daddy, how come we never sell the most cookies?’” he shared with the audience. “It would mean so much to my little girl if we could beat Linda Dunn.”

The stunt was a success — Zahra’s troop raised over $65,000 in cookie sales.

Rock of Love: A Look at Chris Rock’s Relationships

While Rock often mines his personal life for comedy gold, he’s experienced his share of ups and downs in love. He was married to Malaak Compton-Rock for nearly 20 years before their split in 2014. More recently, he was in a relationship with actor Lake Bell.

Now 58, Rock continues to balance his career, personal growth, and fatherhood — and he’s not shy about admitting that his daughters have helped shape who he is today.
