Martha Stewart’s 2 Grandkids: All About Jude and Truman

by Kristine Bowman

Martha Stewart may be a household name thanks to her decades-long career as a businesswoman, author, and TV icon, but these days, she’s especially proud of one title: Grandma. The lifestyle legend is a doting grandmother to two grandchildren — Jude, 14, and Truman, 13 — who are the children of her only daughter, Alexis Stewart.

Alexis became a mom in 2011 with the birth of her daughter Jude after a long journey with IVF. Following five years of treatments, three failed embryo transfers, and costs exceeding $27,000 a month, Alexis welcomed Jude via surrogate. Her son Truman followed in 2012, also born through surrogacy. Throughout it all, Martha was a constant source of support. “She’s very supportive,” Alexis said on The Oprah Winfrey Show back in 2007. “She tells me it will happen all the time.” Martha not only offered emotional support but also financial help — and was thrilled when she finally became a grandmother.

Since then, the Martha Bakes star has embraced grandparenting with her signature flair, often sharing photos and videos of the celebrations she throws for her grandkids. “I cooked them the best gourmet meals I could conjure up,” she told in 2023. She also loves teaching Jude and Truman about baking, crafting, and etiquette. In fact, Martha was so proud of her grandchildren that she expressed disappointment when they weren’t included in her 2024 Netflix documentary, Martha. “There’s not even a mention,” she told The New York Times. “And these grandchildren are utterly fantastic.

Jude Stewart, 14

Jude was born on March 8, 2011, after a long and emotional fertility journey. Alexis, then 45, welcomed her daughter via gestational surrogate. “Getting Jude was lucky,” she said at the time. Martha celebrated her granddaughter’s first birthday with a lavish stuffed-animal-themed party in Manhattan. “Mother and daughter beamed as they entered the restaurant and saw the decorations for the first time,” Martha wrote in Martha Stewart Living.

Over the years, Martha has continued to host memorable events for Jude — from a spa-themed 12th birthday to a cozy Thanksgiving feast and an epic autumn weekend with glamping, horseback riding, and apple picking. Jude seems to be taking after her grandmother creatively as well. For Martha’s 82nd birthday, she made handcrafted origami butterflies and collected personal messages from guests, gifting her grandma what Martha called “the very best birthday card.

Truman Stewart, 13

Just a year after Jude was born, Alexis welcomed Truman on March 6, 2012 — two days before his sister’s birthday. Thanks to their close birthdays, Martha loves throwing joint celebrations, like the massive 2014 “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” themed party for 170 guests.

Truman impressed Martha early on — especially with his language skills. “He is very good in Spanish — very fluent,” she shared when he was just two years old. “And he likes trucks. He can identify pretty much any car on the road.” Like his sister, Truman has a refined palate. “They love good food,” Martha said. “They love cacio e pepe pasta. They like mushrooms. They like caviar.

Martha Stewart’s Ex-Husband Speaks Out

Ahead of the release of Martha on Netflix, Martha’s ex-husband Andrew Stewart and his current wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, responded to claims made in the film about their past. In a Facebook post, Shyla defended her husband against Martha’s comments, calling Andrew “one of the gentlest, most soft-spoken, kind-hearted men I’ve ever known.” The post was in response to Martha’s statements about enduring infidelity during their marriage, including an affair she claimed happened “right on our property.”
