Bestinvest Advocates Kids Company

Kids Company is delighted to have been selected for support by wealth management firm Bestinvest. Here Marcel Porcheron, Chairman of Bestinvest’s Charity Team, explains why they have chosen to support us.
What really impressed us about Kids Company was the high value added nature of its work and the amount of effort that the charity is prepared to put into each child. Our experience of Kids Company has shown us that their work is highly resource intensive which means that a huge amount of voluntary and professional time and effort is put into the children and young people they care for.
Kids Company draws on a skilled staff and a huge volunteering resource to support the young people that it helps; some might consider the ‘front line’ nature of its work high risk, but overall we believe that the charity is fantastic at ensuring that the children who need its help most get it.
Finding a good charity is hard to do when so many are ideologically robust, so we set out a framework for evaluating our shortlisted charities as a way to help guide our choice. For those charities that reached the interview stage of our charity selection process we had to ask senior staff some tough questions, for example concerning staff remuneration and the allocation of the charities’ resources.
Through in-depth analysis of Kids Company’s operations and finances we have identified an organisation which we believe is really effective at deploying its capital to those who need it. Overall, of the seventeen charities we shortlisted, Kids Company stood out as offering the best combination of attractions for us and our staff. Volunteering through Kids Company is also attractive to us because it offers staff the potential to meet and support vulnerable children directly.
