On the evening of Wednesday 14th May the children and young people of Kids Company presented HRH The Prince of Wales with an award to acknowledge the fantastic work he has done on behalf of disadvantaged young people. The ceremony took place at a dinner at Battersea Evolution, celebrated by 700 guests.

Having discovered Kids Company back in 2000, HRH The Prince of Wales brought in business leaders to support us through a very tough period. His support meant an enormous amount to all of us at Kids Company, but the kids in particular were deeply touched, as it felt like someone in power was really taking notice of their needs for the first time.

Tom, who presented the award to HRH The Prince of Wales, explained why he is such a significant figure for young people:

‘We really appreciate the Prince taking time out from his position of royalty to acknowledge young people who are in need; there are not a lot of people in powerful positions that actually want to consider our issues without being judgemental or looking at us through stereotypes or area codes. By recognizing and taking time to understand the real needs of young people, especially through his work with The Prince’s Trust, The Prince of Wales has helped a lot of kids to achieve their ambitions and improve their lives. As young kids there’s not much that we can give back to royalty, but in a little way this award shows our appreciation for everything that he’s done for the community we live in, and for young people across the country.‘
