Mentoring

Mentoring

Everyone has something to give. Are you ready to share your life lessons with someone else?

One-to-one mentor support is extremely valuable for our young people, many of whom don’t have a reliable adult in their lives. Mentors work with the young person to help them achieve goals, build confidence and self-esteem and just have fun.

Kids Company provides mentors with full training and support. Mentoring is ideal for people who work full time as it is very flexible, and it lasts for a minimum of six months to a year. A mentor meets with the young person once a week, and the two decide together when to meet and where to go.

It can be an incredibly rewarding experience for both sides – young people are often just looking an adult to talk to who is committed to providing them with support, whilst the mentor has the opportunity to contribute to a young person’s development and understand life from a whole new perspective.

Training

It is vitally important that all new mentors understand the role of a mentor and the impact that a strong supported mentor relationship can play in the continuing development of a young person.

To support the new mentor, Kids Company has developed a two day training programme that aims to provide the mentor with the required core skills necessary to create a safe and healthy mentor/mentee relationship. Mentors must also attend additional child protection training.

Training takes place over two Saturdays. Both sessions must be completed within a four week period.

Before being accepted onto the training, each volunteer is required to undergo an interview and CRB check and to submit a CV, references and application form. To get involved, contact Mentoring.
